Bethune-Cookman University was born from one of the most remarkable acts of faith in American educational history. Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune started this school in Daytona Beach in 1904 with $1.50, a vision, and the refusal to be turned back. The Wildcats wear maroon and gold as descendants of that original determination, and the campus still carries her spirit in every corner.

Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune founded this university for Black girls who had nowhere else to go. She went on to advise presidents, lead national organizations, and change the trajectory of Black education in America. Every BCU graduate carries a piece of that founding courage. The Wildcats have been honoring Dr. Bethune's vision for over 120 years, and that standard has not dropped.
