Southern University in Baton Rouge is the flagship of the Southern University System, the only HBCU system in the country. Founded in 1880, Southern has been producing Jaguars in columbia blue and gold for over 145 years. The university sits in Louisiana's capital city and has been part of Baton Rouge's Black community, its politics, and its culture for longer than most institutions in the state have existed.
