Texas Southern University was founded in 1927 in Houston, one of America's most diverse and culturally rich cities. The Tigers carry maroon and gray through a campus that sits in the heart of Houston's Third Ward, a neighborhood with its own significant place in Black American history. TSU graduates come out of Houston knowing they have been shaped by one of the most dynamic cities in the country.

Founded in 1927, TSU has produced some of Texas's most prominent Black attorneys, judges, and public servants. The university's Thurgood Marshall School of Law has trained generations of Black lawyers who have practiced across the South and argued cases that shaped Texas. TSU sits in Houston's Third Ward carrying a mission that connects the school directly to the community around it.
